Get Involved!Like the idea of Girl Geek Dinners? Been to one and would like to help? Then why not become a volunteer? Girl Geeks Scotland is an entirely voluntary based organisation. We need people like you to help out at the dinners to make them happen. Depending on your time commitment s and availability, there are a number of ways you can help. GG Dinner Helpers On the day of the dinner, we normally require a small workforce (between 3-4 people) to help the local organisers to set up the layout of the room, and to register dinner guests as they come in, tidy up towards the end of the night. This is doesn’t require anything more than letting the local organiser know that you’re happy to help, and then arriving to the dinner 1.5-2 hours before the start time and maybe staying around half an hour after the dinner has ended to tidy up – although this is flexible. If you have relatively time constrained, this might be the best option.
Local Dinner Organisers If you have more time, then we suggest that you get involved in organising the dinner itself. Time commitments and tasks performed vary, but we normally meet at least twice before the dinner date itself to organise the time, the venue, the caterers etc (there’s a list of common tasks here – link to file). While it might be a little more of a time commitment, it’s a great way to meet fellow girl geeks and to get really involved in the community. Contact one of the local organisers in your area if you’re interested.
National Level Coordinators Here at Girl Geeks Scotland, we’ve got an ambitious programme of international speakers coming up for 2010 which requires a number of people to help coordinate across Scotland. For people who can devote at least 1-2 hours per week (although this will vary depending on the time of year), we would love to hear from you. Volunteers at this level generally have particular roles and responsibilities that they take on – this might sound scary – but it’s not! You will have other people to help you out.
